Artist Statement

Sherry Holliday Hastings uses different types of symbolism to tell a story in her paintings. As an oil painter, she likes to feature patterns, relics from the past, momentos from the present, and nature. Floriography - The Language of Flowers is her vernacular. She loves flora and fauna in all of their natural beauty. How they hold light, their

abstract forms and how they have a life and death of their own. Patterns are the foundational element in her work and used as a backdrop to reiforce the message. They represent generations of personal character traits passed down from generations. She is an expressive, realist painter who focuses on the sometimes loud still life.
